Tasting note: A wine that positively swooshed out of the cask to meet you. Packed with flavour, its vigour and fruit taking one's mind off the tannins. Several recent notes, three made within as many weeks. First: Rich but swingeingly tannic dining at the excellent restaurant Jean Ramet; the next two at masterclasses conducted at Ch Cordeillan-Bages and at Ch de Bagnols (in southern Beaujolais): Impressively deep though a misleadingly mature rim; fleshy, ripe, leathery, cedar and "cheese rind" bouquet - quite exciting; nice fruit but a lean touch. An agreeable drink despite its teeth-gripping finish. M.B.
