A Chinese brass mounted padouk wood striking and automaton table clock, circa 1800
The case with brass handle to brass-lined triple pad top, the arched side panels with cut brass sound frets, with brass-lined base raised on foliate cast feet, the gilt brass dial with engraved spandrels and white enamel Roman and Arabic chapter disc, pierced gilt-metal hands (lacking centre seconds), the arch above with openwork painted scene of trees and storks around a pagoda with aperture revealing one of twenty four Chinese figures holding aloft a banner, changing on the hour throughout the day, the eight day six pillar movement with twin fusees and knife edge verge escapement, strike on bell, the back plate engraved with leafy scrolls and a bird with displayed wings above a mock signature -- 16½in. (42cm.) high to fold of handle
