A George III oak longcase clock, circa 1790
The hood with swan neck cresting and outset front-reeded columns, wavy slats to rear, moulded door frame, the arched trunk door with mahogany banding and flanked by reeded half columns, further mahogany inlay to plinth with canted angles and raised on bracket feet, the 12½in. diameter engraved brass dial with Roman and Arabic chapter ring, signed S. HILL/SHEFFIELD to foliate scroll engraved centre, with steel moon hands, the eight day four pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell -- 85¾in. (218cm.) high
