Lot Essay

This picture was commissioned by Jacksons Ltd. of 22 Small Street, Bath sometime during the 1920's. The company sold waterproofs, hats and umbrellas and Wain did a number of designs for them (8 known) from 1909 to 1911, this image being one of them. Playing cards and other items were also thought to have been produced from this original watercolour.
