A fine approx 1½in. scale model of a Horse Drawn Steam Fire Engine
Built circa 1935 by G.W. Trumble from photographs and sketches of Merryweather and Shand Mason engines using hand tools only, with soft soldered cross tube copper boiler with twin water gauges, pressure gauge, filler/safety valves, whistle, blowdown and main stop valves and steam line to single brass clad cylinder engine 3/4in. bore x 3/4in. stroke direct coupled to a double acting water pump 3/8in. bore x 3/4in. stroke via a scotch crank with eccentric driven valve and flywheel. Other details include water pressure gauge, cylinder head lubricator, inlet and outlet compression domes, water tanks, suction pipe and rose, hose box, coal bunker, turning lock, metal furnished shaft and swingle trees and metal tyred spoked wheels, driver's seat and rear wheel brakes, finished in red, black and polished brightwork, the box sides lettered 'London County Council Metropolitan Fire Brigade' -- 11¾ x 18in. (30 x 46cm.). Glazed case (some old damage)
Note: This model was awarded Silver medal Model Engineer Exhibition London Sept 28 1935 and the actual medal and Certificate are included with the lot, together with a Shand Mason catalogue and other literature.
