A double-ended narrow sampler, dated 1712, worked in coloured silks with identical motifs at either end, including crowned initials MvH and HGJ, an urn of flowers, a pitcher, a key, dogs, birds and flowers, trimmed in brown silk and with a fringe at either end --24 x 7in. (61 x 18cm.), probably German, possibly for a marriage
