Each with four fielded and two plain panels and central moulded vertical division, two doors polished on both sides and with one moulded edge, two polished on one side and with lappeted sides, the lock stamped 'THOMAS BIR', one lock lacking, the handles lacking

Supplied in 1819-21 for 6 St. James's Square, rebuilt under the direction of John Field for Frederick William Hervey, 1st Marquess of Bristol (d.1859), and in that house until they were removed prior to its demolition in 1958, and then by descent in store at Ickworth to

Lot Essay

John Field is described in the London Directories as 'carpenter and builder' from 1817 onwards but by grander titles after 1830. The design of 6 St. James's Square for Lord Bristol is his only known design (H. Colvin, A Biographical Dictionary of British Architects, London, 1995, 3rd. ed., p. 362).
