Lot Essay

In 1771 Coade started working with the sculptor John Bacon (1740-1799), whom she later attributed various works from her catalogue, including the model for this figure of Urania. The figure is listed in the 1784 'Descriptive Catalogue' on the opening page as No.7, size 4 ft. 6 ins. and is illustrated in the Coade etchings paired with the figure of Clio.
