A pair of Japanese ivory tusk vases, 19th century
each decorated in gold, brown and red lacquer, inset with mother-of-pearl, tortoiseshell and stained ivory, one depicting quails before a stream, the verso with a bird of prey in a magnolia tree looking at song birds inflight, the other with owls below a crescent moon, fixed wood stands -- 11in. (28cm.) high. (2)
