A large Japanese shibayama-style hexagonal vase and cover, 19th century
inlaid in mother-of-pearl, coral, tortoiseshell and stained ivory depicting baskets of flowers, precious objects and birds in blossoming branches, the reverse with ducks and kingfishers on a river amongst flowers, all on a sectional ivory ground carved to simulate a brushwood fence, the gilt decorated metal cover with ivory fruit finial and inlaid panels, interior cover with komai-style fan shaped panels, carved and pierced fitted wood stand, metal rims -- 13¾in. (35cm.) high.
