Lot Essay

Born in Paris, and studying under Jean-Paul Laurens, Surand painted a diverse range of subjects. He exhibited at the Salon of French artists from 1884 and won many awards including bronze and silver medals at the Exposition Universelle. He was made Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1910. Nantes and Chambery museums have some of his works.
