Lot Essay

"This work is unusual because it uses real life objects and structures, which seem to have bypassed the foundry of the artist's imagination. Pyne was fascinated by the diagonal position of the rope for drying clothes. It imparts movement in a work bereft of any living creatures. 'I saw such a balcony while traveling by car. The cracks at the bottom of the balcony make it seem that the balcony is hanging in the air.'" (I. Poddar, 'Ganesh Pyne and Drawings', Ganesh Pyne: Recent Works, Vadehra Art Gallery, Exhibition Catalogue, New Delhi, 2001.)
