A sampler by Alice Hartley, worked in coloured silks and wools, to a canvas ground, with graduated spot motifs including flowering jardinieres, birds and baskets of flowers, within a stylised trailing strawberry border 19 x 19in. (48.5 x 48.5cm), all over discolouration and staining, patches of wear, English circa 1847, another sampler worked in coloured wools to a canvas ground, with spot motifs including brids nests and birds in trees, above a shepherd and sheep folly within a country setting and further spot motifs, worked by Harriot Atkinson aged eleven years and dated 1853, within a trailing floral border-- 17 x 16in.
