GRANT, James (1711-1833). The Narrative of a Voyage of Discovery Performed in his Majesty's Vessel the Lady Nelson ... in the Years 1800, 1801, and 1802, to New South Wales, London: by C. Roworth, for T. Egerton, 1803. 4° (266 x 215mm). Large folding engraved frontispiece, 6 plates, including one coloured of a cockatoo and one folding engraved chart, all engraved by S. Neele. (Light offsetting onto frontispiece, occasional, mainly marginal soiling.) Contemporary half calf (extremities quite rubbed). Provenance: Admirality Library (stamp on title) -- "Hydrog: Office IO AP.37" (stamp on title).
FIRST EDITION. Hill: "This voyage sailed through Bass Strait between Tasmania and Victoria, being the first vessel to do so from the West ... Grant described the flora and fauna as well as observations on the navigation of Bass Strait, and he included a list of newly discovered islands, bays, and capes".
