An elementary treatise on ophiology with a descriptive catalogue of the snakes found in India and the adjoining countries, Madras: Higginbotham and Co., 1893. 8° (217 x 136mm.) 20 lithographed plates, including 14 partly hand-coloured. (Title with small hole and a few stains, lightly and evenly browned throughout, a few spots on plates.) Original publisher's cloth gilt (spine lightly faded, sides with small wormholes, extremities rubbed). Second edition, reprinted. First published in 1870, the second edition in 1874. cf. Original boards (backstrip torn with loss, sides lightly soiled, extremities rubbed). Provenance: Andrew Fleming MD 1848 (signature on title).
