Inserted at the front is a 4-page autograph letter from Ethel Peel, the author's wife, to Sir Edmund Lechmere, dated June 30th [1931], reminiscing about her husband and thanking Sir Edmund and his wife for their letter of sympathy on his death. The front free endpaper is further inscribed by Sir Edmund with his own memories of Peel, and the book is copiously annotated by him, often wittily, in pencil.
