GAUDIER-BRZESKA, Henri (1891-1915). Pen and black ink design for a book cover on thin paper with printed heading 'W. & Co.', titled in panel above drawing 'Polska Rziazka we Warszawie 1912' and in panel below 'histericzki od Zofii Brzeskiej', 282 x 219mm. (Torn, mounted on card with adhesive tape.) Provenance: docketed in pencil on the verso 'S593 646251' and 'H.G.B. E.12.'
A RARE DESIGN FOR A BOOK COVER BY GAUDIER-BRZESKA, intended for a volume by Sophie Brzeska. Although Sophie Brzeska had written both short stories and had begun an autobiographical novel entitled Matka, none of her writings were published in her lifetime.
