Lot Essay


George Rodney Mundy was born in 1805, the son of General Godfrey Mundy and Sarah Brydges Rodney, the youngest daughter of the distinguished Admiral, George Brydges Rodney, Ist Baron Rodney. After service as a volunteer and midshipman in North America and the Mediterranean during 1821-24 he embarked as a midshipman on the frigate Blanche as part of a British squadron enforcing British interests on the South American Station during the tumultuous years of revolution and independence in Latin America.
