The Bird's, Ron Wood's first band formed in 1964, looked poised for certain success. Their bookings placed them ahead of the Pretty Things and tJeff Beck's early group, The Tridents, and they shared billing with The Who at some gigs. However, when a similarly named band from the U.S., The Byrds, toured England in the spring of 1965 with their single Mr. Tambourine Man, Wood's Birds got left behind. After a couple of unsuccessful singles, Ron Wood left the band in 1967 to join The Jeff Beck Group before going on to the reconfigured (Small) Faces with Rod Stewart in 1969.
