The front of both plaques carved in high relief, one with a meditating luohan seated on a rocky outcrop with his prayer beads clasped in his right hand, beneath a pine tree and with waves lapping at his feet, the other with another luohan seated barefoot on a rock platform with his sandals nearby, a book in one hand, and his staff in the crook of the other arm; the reverse of both plaques carved in shallow relief and with gilt highlights; the former depicting a pair of antelope in a landscape with a waterfall, the other with a pair of cranes also in a river landscape, with lingzhi fungus growing nearby, the pale grey- green stone with some opaque white inclusions and flecks of brown
