Persian manuscript on paper, 260ff., with 17ll. in 3 columns of black nasta'liq with gold, red and blue margin, illuminated title page with blue, gold, pink, red and light green and white inscription and margins with gold floral decoration, three further illuminated headings at head of page with polychrome arabesque on gold ground and white nasta'liq on blue, colophon at end signed Muhammad Sharif b. Mir Mahmoud Rada' al-Musawi, dated 1055, contemporary black morocco binding with red doublures and flap, slight staining

Lot Essay

Salman Savaji composed hymns to the glory of God, the Prophet and the Imams, particularly 'Ali. The chart in the manuscript is one of these hymns to the glory of Muhammad, which explains the metre.
