Lot Essay

The engraved signature on this beautifully chased salver provides the evidence for attributing the PB monogram maker's mark to Paul Beuren. Sir Charles Jackson identified this mark in 1921 as "PB in monogram [on a] Large punch bowl: Clitheroe Corporation" of 1681 (English Goldsmiths and Their Marks, 1921, p. 139, line 14).
