A rare key-wind variations musical box by Ducommun-Girod,
No. 6014, playing God Save the King and variations in two revolutions, in plain walnut case with exposed controls and hand-written title God Save the King, avec grandes variations; sur 2 tours {Etouffoirs en acier soit à spiraux} -- 9 7/8in. (25cm.) wide, the cylinder 5¾in. (14.7cm.), circa 1832

Lot Essay

The first revolution (on the higher of each pair of steps on the snail) plays the theme and the first variation, while the second plays the second, highly complex variation, on about two-thirds of the revolution, the remaining third being filled by a cadenza.
