Theodore Wores traveled extensively during his illustrious painting career, notably though Asia and Europe. He made only one trip to Spain in 1903 but produced a number of works there including Arcala, Spain that were met with critical acclaim. "[In Spain] he painted in the picturesque areas of Alhambra, Grenada, and Seville . . . Reynolds stated that in the 'use of intense, glowing colors and fluid brushwork, the Spanish scenes are perhaps some of Wores' most successful paintings.' Gerdts concurred, noting that the works are his finest 'in terms of a sensitivity to light and color relationship.' Wores returned to the United States and exhibited his Spanish paintings at the Century Club in New York in 1904." (R.L.
