Lot Essay

F.G.A.M.Smit, op.cit. p.150 'A painting by Arie de Vois in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, inv. A 457, depicts a merry musician with a violin under his left arm and a large roemer in his right hand. If that picture was the original for the engraving , then the design was modified substantially. Arie de Vois painted the same man also in the guise of the "smoker", Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, inv. C 260'.
