Lot Essay

See Rosalind Savill, The Wallace Collection, Catalogue of Sèvres Porcelain, London 1988, Vol. I, pp. 245-253 for a detailed discussion on this vase form thought to have been designed in the mid-18th century by either Etienne-Maurice Falconet or Claude Duplessis père. For similar examples to the present lot compare, anonymous sale, Christie's, New York, 31 March 2000, lot 162; and an anonymous sale, Christie's, London, 1 November 2001, lot 120. Also see Arnold Mondadori ed., La Manifattura Richard-Ginori di Doccia, Milano, 1988, fig. 80 for a similarly moulded nymph as the handle of a bowl.
