Lot Essay

"No other product from the Wiener Werkstätte", writes Christian Witt-Doering, "elicited such vehement reactions as the 'flat' cutlery model". Amongst its enthusiastic admirers was Ludwig Hevesi, who, after dining with the Waerndorfers in 1905, claimed "a sauce spoon could serve as the topic for a lecture on logic".
