Lot Essay

This is a powerful osuriage tachi which may fairly confidently be ascribed to the Ichimonji School of Bizen Province. Large areas of tobiyaki on parts of the blade are caused when the temperature of the heat-treating process is so great that fissures occur in the clay coating, which occurs to a greater or lesser extent on many blades. A note on the registration certificate reads 'Ichimonji Kuni(?)' and 'former collection of Kamikita Rokuzo'.
