Lot Essay

The present drawing was executed at Dunkerque in 1824. There is a related study for the figure furthest to the left in a dismantled sketchbook in the Biblioteque Nationale, Paris. There are other similar studies of buildings and high dunes, characteristic of Dunkerque, amongst the group of drawings in Paris.

We are grateful to Patrick Noon for his help in preparing this catalogue entry.
