Lot Essay

The present watercolour was executed on the first of Cox's two trips to France in 1829. A watercolour by Cox depicting Rue Vivienne, Paris, was sold in The Collection of Monsieur and Madame Gérald Bauer; Christie's, London, 22 January 2003, lot 61, £15,143.
