De forme circulaire, l'extérieur orné en relief de deux anses en forme de masques de chimères, entre lesquelles sont représentés debout sur un fond rocailleux, les Huit Immortels reconnaissables à leurs attributs: Li Tieguai appuyé sur sa béquille, He Xiangu la femme tenant un lotus, Cao Guojiu portant ses tablettes, Loü Dongbin portant son sabre, Han Xiangzi patron des jardiniers, Zhang Guolao magicien tenant deux baguettes, Li Hanzhong avec son éventail et Lan Caihe patron des musiciens, le col rehaussé d'une frise à décor incisé ; petits manques

Lot Essay

A very similar censer with the Eight Immortals and lion-masks handles in relief, but with a slightly everted rim, is illustrated by R.L. Hobson in The George Eumorfopoulos Collection Catalogue, vol.4, London 1927, pl.XLVII, no. D 192. A censer from the Falk Collection was sold in our New York Rooms, 20 September 2001, lot 151.
