The Botanical Magazine; or, Flower-Garden Displayed, London: various imprints, 1787-1979. 164 volumes in 140 (including a duplicate of volume 71 but lacking volumes 156, 157 & 159) and volumes 164 (fascicule IV) to 182 in 55 fascicules (lacking parts 1, 3 & 4 in volume 173, part 3 in volume 175, all of volume 176, parts 1 & 2 of volume 177 and all of volumes 179 & 180), index to volumes 1-20 (1805), index to volumes 1-107 (1883) and index to volumes 1-164 (and a duplicate, 1956), 8° (232 x 135mm. and larger). 2 engraved portraits and circa 10,000 plates including hand-coloured engravings, hand-coloured lithographs, chromolithographs and coloured plates. (Occasional spotting and offsetting.) Volumes 1-70 contemporary half calf (41-70 not uniform), volumes 71-164 original cloth, the remainder in wrappers (some early volumes rubbed). Provenance: Kathleen Alice Cuthbert (later Lady Rayleigh, bookplate).
