Château Mouton d'Armailhacq--Vintage 1945
Pauillac, 5em cru classé
Levels: one each top and upper shoulder; one with signs of old seepage.
The late Baron Philippe de Rothschild acquired this estate in 1933. In 1956 this Estate became known as Mouton-Baron-Philippe and then changed again in 1975 to Mouton-Baronne-Philippe. Finally, in 1989 the name reverted back to it's original moniker, Château d'Armailhac. As the label states the cellars are adjacent to Mouton-Rothschild whose team also oversees production.

This vintage is rarely seen at auction. Thankfully, Michael Broadbent provides a tasting note: "Always a charmer, even in 1945. Several notes: piquant, stylish, flavoury, at best delicious. Last tasted Feb 1986. At best ****" Vintage Wine, MB
