AUGUSTAN PERIOD, CIRCA LATE 1ST CENTURY B.C.-1ST CENTURY A.D.
The surface sculpted in delicate shallow relief, including elegant tongues rising up from the base, their upper limits separated by tiny darts, a band of guilloche at the center of the body, and a band of scrolling above punctuated by four palmettes, one centered on each side, with opposing ram head protomes projecting from below the profiled rim, both depicted nibbling from the outturned central leaf of the palmette below, the upper surface with two drilled mortises to secure the now-missing lid, the separately-made foot a modern replacement
