The earliest postcard reports a good journey to Las Palmas; Puccini then writes in high spirits to Giulio from Bagni di Lucca reporting the arrival of his friends Luigi Pieri and Carlo Carignani, who are 'keeping me cheerful'; he enquires after Giulio's health -- 'is the arsenic working?' - and hopes to have him back 'gagliardo e forte'. To Tito Puccini reports that 'We got it! [Carlo] Clausetti [who took over Ricordi after Tito's retirement] is shining in his greatness!!'. The inscribed visiting card to Carla refers to the enclosed portraits 'il ritrattino in vesta maremmana' [the little portrait in Maremma dress]. (6)
