A ROMAN GOLD AND GARNET BEAD NECKLACE
CIRCA 2ND-3RD CENTURY A.D.
Composed of eighteen spherical garnet beads, interspersed with six large spherical sheet gold beads and twenty-eight modern fluted gold beads, strung with an oval box-set cabochon garnet pendant, the box fringed with granulation, three pendants suspended below, one drop-shaped and set with a garnet, the others pomegranate-shaped, twin suspension loops above, each surmounted by a pyramid of granules; strung with a modern hook-and-loop closure
