Lot Essay

Born at Covington, Kentucky, Duveneck came to Munich to train in 1869, leaving this city in 1878. He gained an honourable mention at Paris in 1895. He had workshops in Florence and in America on his return. It was in Cincinnati that his work really took off, and is now known as one of the fore-fathers of Impressionism in the United States.
