Lot Essay

A related feu a galerie with recumbent lioness at each end, as well as a feu with pierced axe-head motif like the present example, both formed part of Général Moreau's Consulat furnishings in the rue d'Anjou by 1804. Now at Fontainebleau, both are discussed in J.P. Samoyault, Pendules et Bronzes d'Ameublement entrés sous le Premier Empire, Paris, 1989, nos. 266 and 261.
