A MEISSEN ARMORIAL TWO-HANDLED BEAKER AND SAUCER FROM THE ALTHANN AND DANN SERVICE

The beaker decorated with the acollée arms of the Althann and Dann families in oval shields against an ermine-lined red drape surmounted by a coronet and surrounded by Kakiemon flower-sprays, the other side with two Orientals preparing tea by a low table and jardinière with flowers, on an elaborate support with interlocking gilt and Böttger-lustre scrolls and diaper panels, flanked by red and purple foliage scrolls, the double-scroll handles with gilt foliate thumbpieces, the saucer with scattered flower-sprays about the arms, each with gilt interlocking strapwork, scroll and flowerhead borders (chipping to beaker footrim, some chipping on inside edge partially filled with plaster, very slight wear to gilt rims, minute wear to gilding on handles and centre of saucer)
