A MEISSEN YELLOW-GROUND BULLET-SHAPED TEAPOT AND COVER
CIRCA 1740, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK, PRESSNUMMER 1, GILDER'S D. TO BOTH
The foliage-moulded beast's head spout richly gilt, the wishbone handle moulded with gilt foliate terminals, a shell thumbpiece and gilt scales and husks, the body reserved on each side with river-landscape vignettes, one side with figures by a wooden bridge, the other with figures by a crucifix on a rocky outcrop, within shaped ogival quatrefoil gilt line cartouches, below a gilt band rim, the shallow domed cover reserved with two small vignettes flanking a gilt cone finial (some areas of slight wear to gilding, each with restored rim chip, the cover with associated hairline crack to centre, teapot with minute fritting to rim)
