Lot Essay

In 1905 this lamp became the property of The Tavern Club, a private gentleman's club in Cleveland, Ohio. At that time, a new clubhouse was officially opened and it was noted in the club's ledger that one of the four members who had yet to pay his dues elected to satisfy his obligation with the donation of this lamp, in lieu of cash payment. The lamp has remained the property of the club since, where it was placed on the library table in the center of the main lounge of the clubhouse.
