A rare British clown mascot
with blonde and red mohair, orange and black glass eyes, red stitched mouth and nostrils, golden mohair back of head, swivel head, jointed limbs and red mohair hat, circa 1914 --4½in. (11.5cm.) height including hat (some thining to mohair); and a 'solider' bear with blonde mohair, clear and black glass eyes, remains of pipe-cleaner ears, swivel head and jointed limbs, circa 1914 --3¾in. (9.5cm.) high (wear) (2)
Provenance
The vendor was given these bear by an elderly lady called Miss. F.A. Blake who liked to call herself 'FAB darling'. She had two sweethearts during the first world war. One was a soldier and the other was a sailor. They asked her to keep these two soft toys safe until they returned. Unfortunately, neither of them did. They were both killed in the war.
