Lot Essay

The script around the room is the motto of the Nasrid dynasty of the Alhambra, Spain. It reads And no conqueror but Allah. The columns are of the style of the Alhambra Palace, with gilded muqaranas (stalactite moulding) capitals. The radial panels in the arches with vegetal designs are reminiscent of those on the mihrab (prayer niche) of the mosque in Cordoba.
