Second edition of the original very important lithographed work published 1841-62 and 1857-81, containing illustrations of the uniforms, standards, arms and medals of the different regiments of the Russian army from the reign of Peter the Great to Alexander II. The text includees descriptions of plates and the various decrees relating to the subjects. The illustrations are numbered in four sequences as in the original works, comprising 1,580, 1,355, 661 and 44 illustrations printed on one plate, sometimes not consecutively, making collation of the work somewhat difficult.
As rare as the first edition, volumes 20-29, which were printed in Novosibirsk, have a limitation of only 610 copies, with no limitation noted in the later volumes printed in Leningrad.
