Lot Essay

According to Friedländer, the present picture is closest to that in the Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, England, which, in turn, Friedländer considered to be a replica with slight differences and not as characteristic of the Master as that in the Landesmuseum, Oldenburg (inv. no. 270), generally considered to be the prime version (op. cit., p. 69).
