a fine fan, the leaf painted with Moses meeting the seven daughters of Jethro at a well, the ivory sticks carved and pierced with a gentleman and a shepherdess and a lady and gentleman drinking, the guardsticks carved with gentlemen playing the violin, with mother of pearl tips and handle - 11in. Lot Essay

Exodus Ch.2: 16-22. Jethro was the Priest of Midian. His daughters were prevented from watering their father's flock by shepherds. Moses watered the sheep for them and was received at their father's house. He later married Zipporah, one of the seven daughters.
