A quantity of material collected by actress Winifred Dolan including:
- four sepia cabinet cards of Ellen Terry and/or Henry Irving, all signed in black ink, two by Ellen Terry, one by Henry Irving and one by Ellen Terry and Henry Irving, all -- 6¾x4¼in. (17.2x10.8cm.);
- six hand-written letters from Ellen Terry to Winifred Dolan, various dates 1891-1895, three on 22 Barkston Gardens, Earls Court... headed stationery, advising Dolan on her career path ...just stick on where you are for little or no money ...going in the Autumn either with the St. James Co. (at double money, with all travelling expenses paid)...but do try to stick on one place for at least a year... the first thing you must learn to do is stand up straight as an arrow... so you will avoid an appearance of self-consciousness...If you wish to make a living on the stage, every moment you study anything but modern drama, you throw away that moment..., another letter on 1891 Tour, Mr. Henry Irving, Miss Ellen Terry And The Lyceum Company headed stationery, congratulating her...I am so glad you have been so lucky as to get to the St James'...if you go every night & study Miss Kingston in that character part, it ought to do you a heap of good...try to find out her method + system..., another enclosing tickets for one of Terry's performances at the Lyceum;
- a programme for a performance of Liberty Hall at Balmoral Castle, 16th September, 1895, featuring Winifred Dolan as Miss Hickson, accompanied by a late Victorian, Royal Presentation gold, half-pearl and enamel brooch, mounted with the Royal Cipher and crown for Queen Victoria, in presentation box, the inside lid gilt-stamped Collingwood & Co., To The Royal Family, 46 Conduit St., London, the brooch probably presented to Winifred Dolan by Queen Victoria following this performance at Balmoral;
- two theatre programmes featuring Henry Irving at the Lyceum Theatre, 1983 and 1894;
- Winifred Dolan's personal notebooks containing typescript plays with her own annotations regarding stage directions and the scripts, plays include: Richard II, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, A Midsummer-Nights Dream and The Merchant Of Venice;
- two volumes of Winifred Dolan's hand-written memoirs about her life on the stage; and related material (a lot)
