The following fourteen lots were collected by Baron Adolphe-Henri-Albert de Macar (1847-1918), Lieutenant-Colonel d'Infanterie, between 1885 and 1888. During his short career in the Congo de Macar distinguished himself as a topographer and explorer. In 1885 as a captain he was sent with Jungers to map the lower Congo and in 1886 was given the task of founding Luluabourg, Kasai (now Kananga) as a colonial post. In 1888 along with Alexandre Delcommune, he travelled aboard the steamer, Le Roi des Belges, mapping the courses of many of the rivers in the area. Family tradition relates that he also worked with Stanley during this period.
Many of the artefacts de Macar collected in the Congo are now in the Musée Royale de l'Afrique Centrale, Tervuren. The following group, which has remained in the family's possession, is sent for sale by one of his descendants
