A Victorian mahogany and brass-mounted quarter-chiming mantel clock, late 19th century
The stepped top case with urn finials and foliate cast mock frets to the pediment and sides, the handles cast with berried laurels, the brass dial with grotesque male mask spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, matted centre with retail plaque inscribed J.J. DURRANT & SON/40 Cheapside/LONDON, with subsidiary rings above for chime/silent and chime on 8 bells/Cambridge chimes selection, the eight day triple chain fusee movement with anchor escapement, quarter chimes on eight bells and hour strike on gong, with pendulum holdfast to the stoned back plate -- 22½in. (60cm.) high
