8o (185 x 120 mm). Approximately 150 full-page engravings in text. (Some browning, stain at lower gutter throughout second half of vol.). Contemporary vellum gilt, initials "S.R.D." and date 1619 in gilt on upper cover, with large coat of arms at center (some minor soiling). Provenance: unidentified armorial bookplate on flyleaf; Alfred Jerome Brown (bookplate).

FIRST EDITION, with the previously published appendix, of one of the best anatomical textbooks of the period. The work collects all of Bauhin's earlier works in one enlarged and revised text with illustrations based on Vasalius, Valverde, Eustachius, Coiter, etc. The appendix was published 5 years before the Theatrum, for which it provides an explanation of the figures.
